A Celebration of Service and Fraternalism
On Saturday, August 15, 2015, Gamma Xi Phi Professional Arts Fraternity hosted A Celebration of Service and Fraternalism, a public program honoring National President Rashid Darden. It was held at the Greater Tried Stone Baptist Church in the Columbia Heights Section of Washington, DC.
The purpose of the event was not only to celebrate Darden’s election to Gamma Xi Phi’s highest office, but to raise awareness of professional fraternities and generate excitement about Gamma’s new initiatives. The invocation was given by Rev. T. Denise Anderson, Pastor of Unity Presbyterian Church in Temple Hills, Maryland. A presentation was also made by Mr. Christopher Daniels, President of the District of Columbia Alumni Association of Alpha Phi Omega, of which Darden is also a member.
In an address to the audience, Darden thanked friends and family and gave special acknowledgement to the fraternity’s board of trustees. He closed his remarks with a request:
Help us make this fraternity great by spreading the word. If you are not an artist, tell an artist. If you don’t think they’re a joiner, tell them anyway. The more important thing about Gamma Xi Phi is not that we love it–it’s that we like it. There is a difference. We like Gamma Xi Phi and we know other artists will like it too.”
