  • Gamma Xi Phi Remembers Honorary Brother Allen “Uzikee” Nelson

    Artist. Sculptor. Engineer. Cultural Icon.

We the artists of Gamma Xi Phi regret to announce the passing of Brother Allen “Uzikee” Nelson, September 22nd, 2026.

Brother Nelson was a sculptor, educator, and former engineering faculty member of the University of the District of Columbia, located in Washington D.C.’s 4th Ward. His art, crafted from steel and glass, brought African-inspired works to the area.

He has created many works in his life, the most notable being “(Here I stand) In the Spirit of Paul Robeson”, “Saint Dennard: The Edifying Spirit”, and “Doc”. Most of his art work can be seen around Washington D.C.

Brother Nelson was a Spring 2015 Honorary initiate of Gamma Xi Phi.

We will remember Brother Nelson for his works, his life, his community impact, and we cherish the memory and rich legacy he leaves us all  with.
